Share the Wealth
We went to hear Anne Ratliff speak last night. Thought I'd share some "nuggets" ; )
She spoke on making wise use of your summer, however some of her points are important for life so here it goes...
~From Andy Stanley : "cumulative value" - over a course/period of time in small increments add up to a high value, in reverse missing a small increment one time does not mean catastrophe, it builds up by missing the small increments over time. Take for instance developing relationships with your children. You have to invest time wisely. Developing relationships has cumulative value.
~Urgent things push out important things
~Plan Ahead
~Rewards of a planned summer:
You accomplish more
Peaceful environment/less chaotic
Come August your children are more under control & less wise in their own eyes
The transition back into school days goes much smoother
Summers can be fun & productive!
~Remember cumulative value when scheduling such as time w/siblings; foster relationships intentionally. Give them unique activities together, allow the younger sibling to choose the activity for the older sibling.
~Be intentional - have a workable routine
~"Why is neglect on your part an urgency on my part?"
urgent things push out important things ie. running an errand over doing an activity w/child
evaluate your urgent things as they come up; if re-occurring then put them in the schedule
lack of planning
is the "thing" really urgent, can it be done at a later time
~Make sure to communicate expectations w/your children & spouse so that everyone is on the same page.

Great little 'nuggets'! :)
ReplyDeleteBut, I want to know how a man can write a book on how to be a great wife?!?! lol
I was at the meeting last night with Anne, and you are right -- she was Super! It was great fun getting together with other homeschool moms, and I read that book, too, and it is awesome! I recommend anything by Todd Wilson!
