Little Compromises

My hubby sent this one to me this morning so I thought I'd share w/you...

2 Samuel 11:1 "In the spring, at the time when the king's men go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king's men and the whole Israelite army...but David remained in Jerusalem."

David is about 40 and has been king for ten years. For some reason he decides to stay home and let others fight for him. He's lost his heart for the battle, he's got too much free time and too much power, and he's lost his sense of purpose.
All because he let himself drift from the Lord for a while.
A "little" compromise. Along comes Bathsheba, and we see the rapid downward spiral of a man God had greatly blessed. Though he asked for forgiveness and God forgave him, David's actions set in motion a number of disastrous consequences.

Three lessons:
Sin will take you farther than you ever thought you'd go.
Sin will keep you longer than you ever thought you'd stay.
Sin will always require more of you than you'd ever thought you'd give.

These are sobering reminders for us when we consider the "little" compromises.
Lord, please move in my heart and mind to turn from even "little" compromises.
