Miss-Leading

I'm in a class called the Truth Project. The truth is something I have been questioning since Fall of last year. Ask yourself, "What is the truth?" There is a connection between sin, lies & deceit. Every sin that besets us can be traced to a belief in a lie. Are we captive to the lies of the world?
Lies are powerful & lead us to insane notions. It happens before we know it. Insanity is losing touch with reality, believing the lies are real.
Our actions reflect what we believe to be really real.

Did you know that women are more skillful at lying than men? Well it seems God created us with innate abilities & some use them for evil ; )
I will admit that I have lied. I have even reasoned my lying so that I was somehow justified in my lie. You know the kind, "Well I had to say it because if I told the truth it would just be too bad?!"
Ya, right?! There is no excuse.
In a recent article I read it states,
"Women lie as a survival technique, but also to get what they want," said Susan Shapiro Barash, author of "Little White Lies, Deep Dark Secrets: The Truth About Why Women Lie," Lauren Cleri, 26, admitted on air she had cheated on her NYPD cop husband and preferred an ex-boyfriend. But she failed a polygraph, and lost $200,000, by answering "yes" when asked if she believed she was a good person."
How sad is that?! It strikes the core of the issue doesn't it?
Deep down we don't think we are "good enough".
Deep down we believe the lies the world is selling us as women.
My grandma is very wise. She told me growing up that once you tell one lie you have to tell another lie to cover that lie. Then you have to tell another lie to cover that one. And then before you know it you are a habitual liar. You'll lie to yourself just so you can look in the mirror. Ugh?!
Here are some points I read:
  • Many women use the "betterment lie," as Barash calls it, as a means to an end.
  • Some lie to cover up childhood incest or domestic abuse, or taboo behavior like drinking, gambling or Internet-porn addiction.
  • More than 80 percent believe in "beneficial lying." A New Jersey mom doesn't tell her well-behaved daughter about her own wild teen years of marijuana and partying.
  • Urban women favor the "competitive lie," Barash said. "You lie about money and cosmetic surgery. Your out-of-work husband is a 'consultant.' You embellish your kids' accomplishments, or downplay their SAT tutoring."
  • In the "lying to yourself" category, the book mentions Hillary Rodham Clinton, who as first lady went on TV to blast the Monica Lewinsky scandal as a political attack against her husband. She later acknowledged Bill's cheating.
  • Others lie because "there's too much to lose," Barash said. Rudy Giuliani's wife, Judith, guarded a secret that she was married twice, and not once, previously. The truth, which Rudy apparently knew, hit the front pages when he ran for president.

Hmmmm which category best fits you or a person(s) in your life?!
Girls don't lie. The truth always comes out in the end (I just love living in a small community?!). There's no point in even the tiniest exaggeration. You are perfect just the way you are & if people can't love you just the way you are then you don't need them anyway : )
I've told my share of lies & I hate myself for it. I don't ever want to miss-lead anyone again.
I appreciate my blog friends who are real. It's so easy in this blogworld to lie. Mrs. Cupcake - hats of to you for raising the bar of truth! Seriously, you inspire me. Your actions show what you really believe.
I encourage everyone to check out the Truth Project. It offers a fresh approach to the Biblical Worldview. Even if you are not a "believer" it offers points from different religions & agnostics.

I'll leave you with the question that we were left with tonight,
"Do you really believe what you believe is really real?"
Uh-huh!? Re-read it a few times so it sink in!

The liar's punishment is not in the least that he is not believed, but that he cannot believe anyone else.
George Bernard Shaw

A liar will not be believed, even when he speaks the truth. Aesop

A man is never more truthful than when he acknowledges himself a liar. Mark Twain

I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant. Martin Luther King

Truth fears no trial. Proverb

I say this so that no one will mislead you with nice-sounding rhetoric. Colossians 2:4

  1. I certainly know I have lied before, (I am spending the night at a friends house, mom!) but I honestly cant think of any in a long, long time. (does "no, there are NO more cookies!" to a 2 year old count???) I fear that I am too open about things that are none of anyone elses business. Some things dont need to be shared. Or is that another form of lying? hmmmm... deep thoughts, J, deep thoughts.....
    Thank you

  2. You so ROCK girl!

Yep, I've lied. I've been evasive. I've got stuff hidden deep that I've only confessed to MY SAVIOR!

But, I know I've been forgiven and I've worked hard to forgive myself.

Sadly, there are still times when I have to ask for forgiveness. Do we ever get old enough or wise enough to do better?!?

What's sad is that there are people out there that do truly believe their lies. They believe them strongly enough that they no longer see themselves as a liar.

When you can't even recognize your sin and ask for forgiveness then that's a HUGE problem.

Whenever I sin it eats away at me until I lay at the feet of my Savior.

    Good stuff Jennifer, good stuff.

  3. Oh yeah, I am a "lie to yourself" kinda girl. I tell myself all kinds of lies.
    God knows.
He gently nudges. Sometimes he needs to just push me off the curb...but, He doesn't. Always kind, gentle.
    Thank you for your honesty!

  4. thank you for sharing. I guess my struggle is discerning subtle lies from the Enemy. If I am not careful I can start believing his lies about myself and feel bad. Love that book "the Lies Women Believe." I know that is kind of different that what you are sharing.

  6. I am thinking about signing up for this very class at my church (it's between the Truth Project and Beth Moore's Stepping Up). I love Beth Moore, but this looks really uh... educational... something that could change your way of thinking. Am I right? Oooh... what should I do? :-)

  7. This is an amazing post!! I know I use to live a life of lies to make myself feel better about myself. Through God I have learned I am loved no matter what I do wrong. I am learning to embrace the truth as hard as that may be at times. I still have some more letting go to do and I am truly hoping I am able to do that this year!!
    Thanks again!!

  8. Excellent post and a LOT to think about. Sometimes I don't think that I lie as much as navigate my way around the truth. That sounds pretty deceptive, doesn't it.
