In a Slump

In life, at one time or another, we all find ourselves in a slump. I prefer to call these times the "funk".  You know, just feeling out of balance, down or stressed. There is actually a definition for being in a funk:  a state of nervousness, fear, or depression.  When googling for some motivational quotes I came across Dr. Seuss -Oh, the Places You'll Go!  It seems to sum up the funk, however Dr. Seuss calls it a "lurch" then a slump...

“You’ll be on your way up! You’ll be seeing great sights!
You’ll join the high fliers, who soar to high heights.
You won’t lag behind, because you’ll have the speed.
You’ll pass the whole gang and you’ll soon take the lead.
Wherever you fly, you’ll be the best of the best.
Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.
Except when you don’t. Because, sometimes, you won’t.
I’m sorry to say so but, sadly, it’s true
and Hang-ups can happen to you.
You can get all hung up in a prickle-ly perch.
And your gang will fly on. You’ll be left in a Lurch.
You’ll come down from the Lurch with an unpleasant bump.
And the chances are, then, that you’ll be in a Slump.
And when you’re in a Slump, you’re not in for much fun.
Un-slumping yourself is not easily done.”  ~ Dr. Seuss

I love it! "When you're in a slump you're not much fun. Un-slumping yourself is not easily done." That Dr. Seuss was a wise man. I'm thankful for my Bible Study on James. James spoke about anguish. Pain + Anxiety = Anguish. James 1:2 teaches us that anguish & joy can coexist. Psalm 30:11 teaches us that our source of anguish can morph into joy. Mental anguish can be like a mind in labor. Anguish is meant to give birth to your promise from God. Isaiah 26:17-18 - don't turn your back on your promise from God. Trust God. Don't give up. Lord, give us patience through the anguish, give us tenacity, give us trust. “Will you succeed, yes you will indeed, 98 and 3/4 guaranteed.” ~ Dr. Seuss  We will succeed if we do not forget our purpose. We can live in pain, not purposeless.
